New Atlantic served as General Contractor for the 30,565‑square‑foot Jackson County Aquatics Center addition in Cullowhee, North Carolina. The project expands year‑round recreational opportunities and supports Jackson County’s commitment to health and wellness. New amenities include a competition pool, leisure pool, outdoor patio, upgraded locker rooms with saunas, office and storage space, and a new public entrance.

Construction of the pools required specialized foundation solutions due to a high groundwater table and existing site conditions. Pool structures were anchored into existing bedrock using rock anchors to resist hydrostatic uplift, as the weight of the shotcrete pool shells alone was insufficient to counter groundwater pressure.

These anchors provide long‑term structural stability by preventing movement, cracking, and potential failure during periods of high groundwater, pool drainage, or prolonged soil saturation, ensuring the durability and safe operation of the aquatics facility.
