New Atlantic completed the UNCSA New Library project with Clark Nexsen PC. The existing library was outdated and did not meet the needs of the school. Situated at the highest point on campus the new library establishes an architectural focal point as a welcoming gesture to the campus community.
Campus paths are thoughtfully integrated into the design of the library providing gathering areas along the main exterior monumental stair and plaza. A café was integrated to further energize the plaza and surrounding campus spaces. The form of the building was a responsive solution to a challenging and highly visible site. The form breaks open to create not only outdoor plaza space, but to allow for clear lines of site from within the building out as well as from the campus inward establishing connections and a sense of transparency.
The new facility houses a vast collection of visual and performance art material including print media, audio recordings and film. Variations of study spaces throughout contains areas for listening and viewing of performance collections, along with areas for more traditional study and student teacher interaction.
