New Atlantic performed the expansion of the existing museum program into an adjacent rock quarry that was abandoned in the 1920s. This design opened up a whole new dimension of life and science learning for the museum’s curriculum.

The concept featured bears, wolves and lemurs in natural terrain with man-made rock and water features, an inhabited wetland area,a man-made sailboat pond, animal holding facilities, and a boardwalk descending down the face of a 26 FT cliff and winding through the wetlands. The project also included 2 visitor centers, a parking lot expansion, and a new entrance to the Museum Animal Experts.

One bear, named Ursula, already lived there in an existing holding facility, located where the new waterfall pond area would be constructed. We had to build her a new home and set up temporary fencing to transfer her in order to free up this space.
